76 Ashman Circle Construction Underway

The new Midland Area Community Foundation building renovation is underway. The Foundation purchased the Community Drug Store Building at 76 Ashman Circle in December of last year and just this last week, broke ground on the renovation of the new offices.

The building operated as a drug store for almost 50 years and is now being turned into an office for the Midland Area Community Foundation. Sugar Construction, a local Midland company, is the general contractor. The 4,579 square foot building will have nine office spaces, two conference rooms, natural lighting and a newly designed interior.

The renovation itself is not going to change the look of the building. “The outside of the building won’t change much at all” said Brian Rodgers, Board Chair of the foundation, “we value the history behind the building and the whole Circle area and we want to honor that by keeping the building intact. Our goal is to improve the building for our purposes and that includes a sensitive renovation of the inside to office space.”

The construction has started this week with removal of interior walls and the mezzanine level. The windows will be replaced to improve efficiency while wiring, plumbing and mechanicals will be updated as well. Then ceilings, walls and floors will be added and office spaces defined. “We’re looking forward to the move”, said Jan McGuire, President and CEO of the foundation. “Our recent move to 5820 Eastman Avenue went very smoothly and we are looking forward to moving into a permanent home for the foundation.”
