Bay City Road Interchange Plantings

It may be one of the shortest projects that the Entranceways Initiative Task Force (EITF) has completed thus far. Started September 15, 2003, and completed only five days later, the Bay City Road/US 10 Interchange project is just one of the many projects that is underway to improve Midland's entrances.

"With each thing being done, one adds to another," said Douglas Chapman, EITF committee member and horticulturist director at Dow Gardens. "It was a modest addition."

Twenty trees were planted in this area, along with a variety of shrubs. Chapman felt like it was "a nice opportunity to do some framing" and "improve the asthetics" of both the pond and the highway exit. "You can do some beautiful things if you work at it a little bit," said Chapman.

Chapman said that the EITF is not finished adding to the Bay City Road/US 10 exit area. Another point of focus for the committee is the detention pond that is currently hidden from the road on the other side of US 10. "It's a beautiful little pond." said Chapman.
