Endowment Funds

An endowed fund will exist in perpetuity, and spending from the fund is controlled by a spending policy. In short, our current spending policy is that 5% of the market value of the fund, based on a 20-quarter rolling average, becomes spendable each year, and that amount if unused remains spendable in the future. Gifts to endowed funds qualify for a federal income tax deduction and also for the Michigan Community Foundation Tax Credit.

Unrestricted Endowment Funds

These funds provide earnings that the Board of Trustees of the Clare County Community Foundation can use for its discretionary grantmaking and project development. The creation of this type of fund is also a wonderful way for a family to honor a loved one by creating a permanent fund which will carry his/her name in perpetuity.

Other Unrestricted Endowment Funds

These are funds which honor or memorialize individuals or families, or were started by a group/company/organization, but which are also part of our group of unrestricted endowment funds. The donors who established these funds have provided to us the highest possible complement -- they believe that we will find the highest and best use for their dollars at the appropriate time.
