GladYAC Walks for Warmth

"I have been doing Walk for Warmth for three years now and it is great to see the people of Gladwin county come together for a cause, it shows that people really do care," commented Harley Sasse, President of the Gladwin Youth Action Council (GladYAC).  Part of the Midland Area Community Foundation, GladYAC is a group of youth volunteers who are dedicated to making their community a better place by awarding grants and volunteering.  Other GladYAC projects this year included judging fall decorations in downtown Beaverton, holding a bake sale in order to adopt a family for the holidays, and running a Winter Wear Drive which provided hundreds of articles of winter clothing to those in need.

There will be over 15 GladYAC members walking this year, with a goal of raising $500 in pledges for the Walk for Warmth. If you are interested in donating to this cause, please contact Lynn Heil, Youth Action Council Coordinator at  lheil@midlandfoundation.org  or (989) 839-9661.

The Mid Michigan Community Action Agency (MMCAA) sponsors the Gladwin County Walk for Warmth to raise funds to make sure that local low income families are able to have heat this winter.  They also host Walk events in Bay, Clare, Mecosta, Midland, and Osceola counties. More information including Walk times and locations is available at www.mmcaa.org.

GladYAC  also makes grants to nonprofit organizations for programs affecting youth in Gladwin County.  If you are involved in a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is interested in applying for a GladYAC grant to benefit youth in your community, contact Lynn Heil at the Midland Area Community Foundation at lheil@midlandfoundation.org  or (989) 839-9661.
