MLK Scholarships
Applications
for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Regional Scholarship are now available. All high school seniors in Bay, Midland and Saginaw Counties are eligible.
The
non-renewable scholarships of at least $1000 are awarded each year to students
who strive to actively recognize and promote cultural diversity, respect and
the realization of King’s ‘Dream’. Consideration
for the scholarship is based on how the student has shown dedication to Martin
Luther King’s vision in their lives. Activities
that promote cultural awareness and encourage multi-cultural equality should be
evidenced through essay.
Applications
are available online to download here
and at the Bay Area Community Foundation, Midland Area Community Foundation and
the Saginaw Community Foundation. The
deadline to apply is Friday, Nov. 1. Individuals must submit applications to the
Midland Area Community Foundation, 76 Ashman Circle, Midland, MI 48640 by
November 1, 2011.
Scholarships will be awarded
at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at Saginaw Valley State
University on January 11, 2012. Award recipients are required to attend the
ceremony.

MLK Celebration
Saginaw Valley State University has partnered with regional
businesses, chambers of commerce and community foundations to work
together to host a celebration of the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
The second annual Great Lakes Bay Regional event will feature a peace
march, keynote speaker and scholarship award ceremony.
Attendees will include students, community supporters, business and
civic leaders throughout the region. This collaborative effort of the
Great Lakes Bay Region replaces several individual community events that
have annually commemorated Dr. King, which is extremely beneficial to
the various funders who support these events.
The event is free and open to the public, but a ticket is required through the SVSU Box Office. Seating is limited and general; tickets are first request/first serve.
