Grand Curve ParkwayPhotos by Howard Garrett

In August 2005, the EITF broke ground for a parkway along US-10BR and was completed in October 2005.

The "Grand Curve Parkway" is a 1.4-mile path that stretches from Washington Street to State Street. Complete with benches and plantings, it ensures walkers and bikers an enjoyable stroll.

“The Grand Curve Parkway was an opportunity to dramatically change this entrance of Midland from an open field to a landscaped non-motorized path,” said Doug Chapman, EITF committee member.

“The next step will be to tie that up to the Rail-Trail and continue the path 1.8 miles northeast in an effort to have the trail run from Stratford Woods all the way to downtown,” added Chapman.

Not only was this project a good way to build up one of Midland’s entranceways, but it was also a great way to build collaboration.

“It was a great opportunity to develop close-working relationships between the EITF, the City of Midland and the Michigan Department of Transportation,” said Chapman.

“Hopefully, there will be other opportunities for those three entities and others to work together not only for the aesthetics of Midland, but to provide this ring around Midland for a non-motorized path while we still have the green space to do it.”
