Velasquez Elected Chair of the Midland Area Community Foundation Board of Trustees

Christian_Velasquez.jpgChristian Velasquez is the new Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Midland Area Community Foundation. The slate of officers, as nominated by the Nominating Committee, was approved by the board of trustees on June 24, 2008.

“This is really an honor,” said Christian Velasquez, “The whole board supports the mission of this organization so strongly that I really feel like part of a team and am looking forward to working with everyone to increase the mission of philanthropy in our community.”

Christian Velasquez has a long history of community involvement. He is a Trustee on the Council of Michigan Foundations Board, a Director on the Little Forks Conservancy, Midland Rotary Club and Michigan Chamber of Commerce boards. In recognition of his outstanding dedication to the community, Christian has been awarded the 2007 RUBY Award and the 2008 Midland Leader of the Year award. Christian is the Americas Commercial Manager at Dow Corning Corporation.

“We are so pleased to have such an accomplished volunteer as our Board Chair.” said Jan McGuire, President and CEO of the Midland Area Community Foundation. “We are looking forward to his leadership in a new capacity here at the Foundation, his experience and dedication will further our mission and vision.”

The new Midland Area Community Foundation board consists of the following individuals: Christian Velasquez, Chair, Linda Cline, Vice Chair, Richard Dolinski, Secretary, Jim Hop, Treasurer, Melissa Barnard, Trustee, Neil Hawkins, Trustee, Carole Donaghy, Trustee, Mary Draves, Trustee, Thomas Erickson, Trustee, Alison Goethe, Trustee, L. Scott Govitz, Trustee, Bridgette Gransden, Trustee, Roger Jennings, Trustee, Linda Owen, Trustee, Brian Rodgers, Trustee.

The Midland Area Community Foundation is governed by a 15-member Board of Trustees. This board is elected by the members of the Foundation, and is chosen from among the membership. The members of the Board of Trustees are chosen for their broad community knowledge and representation. They receive no compensation for their service.

Board members are elected for three-year terms, and can serve for as many as two consecutive three-year terms.
