Clare County Community Foundation Helped to Increase Surgical Suite at MidMichigan Health

The Clare County Community Foundation is pleased to have granted nearly three thousand dollars to MidMichigan Medical Center in Clare to assist with the expansion of the Medical Center’s Surgical  Suites.

Because the Medical Center’s surgical suites were too small, too crowded and too antiquated to accommodate new technology, the renovation project was started in January of 2006..

The new surgical suites opened the July 1, 2008.  As a result of the newly renovated suites, increased surgical procedures have been available locally due to the increased technology and space capacities.  In addition, the Medical Center can now accommodate more surgeons, bringing new experienced doctors into the Clare area.

Larry Barco, president of the MidMichigan Medical Center said, “All of this improvement in our capabilities equals phenomenal care for local people here in Clare. By being able to provide surgical treatments close to home, we can improve patient care as they don’t have to travel as much to receive treatment.  This local care allows for less disruption in people’s lives and helps them heal faster.  We also improved our technology in our surgical suites, allowing for amazing new patient care.”

Ultrasound capabilities have been enhanced by the addition of General Electric LOGIQ® 9 ultrasound technology. The LOGIQ® 9 gives physicians a clearer view of a developing baby, abdominal organs, bowels and blood vessels in the legs. Other additions include SurgiNet and PharmNet, which are electronic medical records for the operating room and pharmacy.  Digital mammography is planned to be installed soon as well. All of these additions to the Medical Center enhance patient safety and diagnostic capabilities. The SurgiNet system enables patients’ families to follow on a monitor as their loved ones’ progress from pre-op to recovery.

The Clare County Community Foundation is thrilled to have been able to assist with bringing these increased capabilities to the Clare community.
