Clare County Community Foundation Honors Scholarship Recipients

On Sunday, May 3, at 2:00, the Clare County Community Foundation (CCCF) hosted the 2009 Scholarship Awards at the Doherty Hotel.  Five scholarship recipients were honored with scholarship awards that will help them with college costs.

"We are so pleased to host this event." said Carol Santini, Clare County Community Foundation Chair.  "The people who made the scholarship possible and the students who have been awarded the scholarships get a chance to come together for this event and this year we invited CCCF  donors as well."  Most of the scholarship recipients attended the event, and representatives of the scholarship funds were available to meet and talk to with each student.

"The connection between the recipient and the people who represent the funds is a really powerful thing." said Jan McGuire, President and CEO of the Clare County Community Foundation. "The fund representative is usually someone who created or helped create the fund.  To meet the local student who will benefit from the fund is really meaningful.  For the student to also be able to meet the person representing the fund gives that student a chance to understand the intention behind the fund too. Many scholarship opportunities are created to honor a person in our community and it is really wonderful for the recipient to learn more about that person being honored. It makes the scholarship they've received all that much more meaningful."

The Board of the Foundation  and the Clare County Youth Action Council welcomed all, recognized the generosity and thoughtfulness of the donors, congratulated the recipients and the awards were presented by the scholarship representatives.  One donor remarked, "This is really nice, I didn't know the Foundation also awarded scholarships, I'm glad I came".

Scholarship Recipients were:

Walker Van Hoose who was awarded the Dr. David Bremer and Family Endowed Scholarship and the Fred Doherty Scholarship; Karlie Vida who was awarded The Helen Lucile Doherty Scholarship Endowment for the Fine and Performing Arts ; Jessica Jourdain who was awarded The Reine M. Doherty Scholarship ; Megan Rodgers who was awarded the Joe Johnston Memorial Endowed Scholarship ; and Ashley Pohl  who was awarded The Matthew J. Reinke Memorial Endowed Scholarship
