The American Association of University Women--Midland Branch Graduating Senior Woman Scholarship/Women in Transition are nonrenewable awards of $2,000. There will be 2 ($2,000) Scholarships in each area. Graduating Senior Women: The successful applicant must graduate from a high school under the jurisdiction of the MCESA in the year of the award, or be a Midland County resident graduating from high school in the year of the award. The applicant must be a female who ranks in the top third of her class. The essay for this scholarship should describe how this award will help the applicant attain her educational goals. It may include answers to: Why did I select the career I have chosen? What events or situations influenced my career choice most? The essay may also discuss involvement in school and community activities. The award is a combination of merit and need with emphasis on potential contribution to society. Awardee must be pursuing her education full time and be working toward a baccalaureate degree. Two scholarships may be awarded this year. Women in Transition: will be 2 awards of $2,000 to women who have had a delay or interruption in her education beyond high schooland who wish to work toward a baccalaureate or higher degree, OR already has a baccalaureate degree and is returning to school to re-educate herself with a specific career goal in mind. For purposes of this scholarship, a delay or interruption in education must equal a minimum of one fall or one spring semester. The award must be used in the academic year following the May announcement of the recipient. It is based on a combination of merit, need and the woman's potential contribution to society. Previous recipients may reapply for a second year if the student achieves a B average or better during the first year. The essay for this scholarship should describe career goals, reasons for applying for this scholarship and activities or studies in the past five years. Two scholarships may be awarded.
