Hornsby Aviation Education Endowment Fund #00283

To provide assistance with tuition and/or fees for flying lessons and/or pilot ground school to students ages 15 to 22 who are residents of Midland or Gladwin County or to provide a scholarship to a student who is pursuing an education in an aviation related field at a 2 year or 4 year college or university. Preference will be given to the student taking flying lessons if applicants are of equal qualifications.

From the fundholder:

This scholarship fund was established by Dorothy “Dot” Hornsby, nicknamed “The Flying Grandma”, a retired teacher who achieved her dream of learning to fly a plane and has been active in the aviation community since 1993. She created an aviation camp through the Midland Jack Barstow Airport and has participated in numerous programs to expose young people to aviation. The Hornsby Aviation Education Fund was set up to provide financial assistance for a young person trying to obtain their pilot’s license as well as for college students pursuing a degree in aviation.
