United Way 2-1-1 of Northeast Michigan—
Connecting people in need with people who can help
MIDLAND, MI – A turning point for our friends and neighbors in need is gaining recognition throughout the region. Because of the support of numerous organizations, callers now have an easy way to connect with services in their local communities.
“We have taken over a thousand phone calls in our first thirty days as a 2-1-1 call center,” said executive director Scott Redman. “A grant received from the Midland Area Community Foundation has allowed us to purchase the materials necessary to get this important service out into the community.”
A committed partner, the Midland Area Community Foundation strengthens our community by providing leadership, fostering collaboration on local needs and issues, and encouraging a legacy of giving through grants, scholarships and events.
2-1-1 is a free telephone number that connects callers with resources, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. People looking for assistance can find it difficult to navigate the complicated web of health and human service programs and often don’t know where to begin. Now, help is available by simply picking up the phone and dialing 2-1-1.
“2-1-1 helps communities bring together people in need with the resources that can help. It improves our quality of life by providing up-to-date information about available services, while operating in a cost effective, efficient manner that makes use of the latest technologies,” stated John Moolenaar, 2-1-1 of North East Michigan board member.
Callers will be connected with a trained, caring professional who will assess their situation, identify their needs and refer them to local resources. Individuals who would like to offer help or have items to donate can also connect by calling 2-1-1.
