United Way 2-1-1 of Northeast Michigan—

Connecting people in need with people who can help

With a heightened emphasis on security and disaster-relief efforts in our local communities, it has become prudent business practice for 2-1-1 services to be prepared for disaster response and equip staff to handle disaster-related inquiries appropriately.  The 2-1-1 service shall be prepared to assess and provide referrals for inquirers who are experiencing a crisis due to a disaster, or who want to offer assistance. Preparation includes a plan for the 2-1-1 to continue to provide services if its building is damaged or destroyed; and the ability to effectively accumulate and disseminate accurate disaster-related information, provide information and referral assistance for individuals impacted by a disaster.

“We are taking the necessary steps to position 2-1-1 as an information and referral resource for communities in times of disaster,” said Executive Director Scott Redman.  “A grant received from the Clare County Community Foundation has allowed us to purchase materials necessary to get our disaster preparedness program started.”

A committed partner, the Clare County Community Foundation strengthens our community by providing leadership, fostering collaboration on local needs and issues, and encouraging a legacy of giving through grants, scholarships and events.

“The United Way 2-1-1 Call Center offers hope, resources and support to citizens throughout Mid-Michigan.  2-1-1 is a dream come true by having an easy to access phone number that will be a turning point for thousands of citizens.” stated Don Schuster, 2-1-1 board member.

During times of crisis and disaster individuals become confused, discouraged and hopeless as they try to connect with available resources and information sources.  That is why the simple message of 2-1-1 is so important.  That one easy to remember number can clear away the confusion opening up the full potential of the community’s disaster plan, agencies and programs.
