Foundation Has Three New Trustees

On May 23, the Midland Area Community Foundation voted in three new Trustees and recognized three retiring Trustees. Elizabeth Lumbert, Liz Kapla and Kevin Gay have been voted into Trustee positions on the Midland Area Community Foundation Board of Trustees.

Elizabeth LumbertElizabeth Lumbert has 19 years of public garden experience with The Dow Gardens where she serves as the Assistant Director coordinating marketing, the volunteer program, and special events. Elizabeth attended Michigan State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Lyman Briggs. She also holds an M.B.A. from the Northwood University DeVos School of Management.

Elizabeth has a special passion for annually volunteering as a camp counselor at MidMichigan Home Care’s Camp Warm Hearts. She has served on the Leadership Midland Steering Committee since graduating from the program in 2008. Elizabeth also serves on a United Way of Midland County Community Impact Advisory Panel, the Reece Endeavor GardenWalk Committee, and facilitates e-marketing for the Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (Shelterhouse). In her spare time, Elizabeth enjoys vegetable gardening, ice fishing, and being a member of the Max Carey Blacksmith Club. Elizabeth is married to her husband Keith and is the daughter of long-time Midland residents Don and Marilyn Findlay.

Liz KaplaLiz Kapla has lived in Midland for almost 40 years and raised four children here with husband, Roger. She is currently the coordinator of the Midland Mentors program.  Midland Mentors is a one-on-one mentoring program for the students in the Day Treatment program, the treatment center established by the 42nd Circuit Court Family Division, at the Midland County Juvenile Care Center. In addition, she is a member of the Midland 100 Club, Women’s Study Club, and the American Association of University Women – Midland Chapter.

Liz KaplaLiz is a past board member of Alden B. Dow Museum of Science and Art and has chaired Summer Art Fair for four years. In addition, she is a past board member of Midland Soccer Club where she Co-directed the Mother’s Day Tournament for two years. Liz also was a member of Presbyterian Parent Cooperative Preschool Board and Siebert PTO Board.

Kevin GayKevin Gay is the Vice President Finance & Administration at Three Rivers Corporation.  Kevin joined Three Rivers Corporation in 1992 and presently has in excess of  30 years experience in the construction industry. Over the past 20 years at Three Rivers he has held ever increasing job responsibilities including Accounting Manager, Controller and VP of Finance and Administration. Kevin became a principle and Treasurer of Three Rivers in 1996 and Executive Vice President in 2001.  Kevin serves as Board Member and Past Treasurer for the Arnold Center, Board Member of  Junior Achievement of Central Michigan, Inc and as a Board Member of  CBM Services.

Trustees are eligible to serve for two full three year terms.  “We’re looking forward to the insight, leadership and expertise that Elizabeth, Liz and Kevin will bring to our Board of Trustees,” said Jan McGuire, President and CEO.

The three new volunteer Trustees are taking the positions held by Richard Dolinski, Bridgette Gransden, and Jim Hop, all of whom have retired from the Board.  The Midland Area Community Foundation recognizes the significant contributions of these Trustees during their service and looks forward to their continued involvement in the community.
