3 Grants Approved Last Quarter
Every quarter, our Board of Trustees meets to review grants proposed by Midland County nonprofit agencies. Each grant proposal is first researched by a committee made up of community members.
We help a wide variety of community programs through our competitive grant making. These programs include arts and culture, civic improvement, education, environment, health, human services, recreation, and youth. Many new programs and special initiatives have started due to MACF grants. Monies for these grants come from donors who are interested in strengthening the community through their gifts.
The MACF Board of Trustees recently met and approved grants to three local organizations:
$20,000 – Midland Parks and Recreation Department
The Parks and Recreation Department assists with setup for numerous community events throughout the year, and fencing is often needed to direct foot traffic and clearly mark event areas. This grant will allow the city to purchase sturdier metal fencing that will replace the aging plastic fences that are currently used.
$2,280 – Grove St. Music Festival
The Grove St. Music Festival was established in 1998 to bring professional chamber music to Midland and to work with local student and adult musicians. This grant will allow the Grove Music Festival to arrange for a visiting artist to perform a concert at the Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church as well as lead a masterclass for students of Midland and Dow High Schools.
$13,000 – City of Midland
The Center City Authority will use these funds to help with the construction and installation of gateway signage at the northern and southern ends of the Center City District. Center City spans from the Circle Business Area on Saginaw Road to just past E. Patrick Rd, including over 225 businesses. The signage is part of a broader plan to help identify Center City as a shopping and dining destination and eventually improve the physical landscape of the area.
