Give Local Midland 2022

April 22nd, 2022

Midland Area Community Foundation’s Give Local Midland 2022 to take place on May 3

Give Local Midland, the annual 24-hour giving event for nonprofit organizations with endowed funds at the Midland Area Community Foundation returns on May 3.

The focus of Give Local Midland since 2014 has been to build long-term sustainability through growing nonprofit endowment funds. However, since the pandemic in 2020, gifts have been deposited into the spendable portion of endowment funds, rather than all contributions going to the permanent portion of the fund. The $77,000 match pool will be deposited into the permanent portion of funds.

“The purpose of the Midland Area Community Foundation is to cultivate the power of giving within our community, support long-term transformation, and help ensure all residents thrive,” said Sharon Mortensen, President & CEO of the Midland Area Community Foundation. “Give Local Midland represents a collective giving model that enables the Community Foundation to support long-term sustainability and, at the same time, be reactive to growing needs in our community.”

On May 3, over 70 area nonprofits will engage in the 24-hour giving day: raising money, promoting engagement, and elevating awareness of the inspiring work of Midland area nonprofits. Nonprofits will encourage the support of their organizations while competing for $3000 in additional prizes. Competitions for prizes vary in criteria and evaluation, some of which are based on time, creativity, and the number of donors.

“Give Local Midland is an incredible event to support local nonprofits, many of which have still been unable to hold their traditional fundraisers until this year,” said Mortensen. “Give Local Midland provides nonprofits a vehicle to raise funds and support their missions.”

In addition to contributions and prize winnings, nonprofits will also be splitting a percentage-based match pool. $77,000 in match dollars have been committed by the Community Foundation and Donor Advised Fundholders. The match pool makes Give Local Midland the perfect time to give to area nonprofits by maximizing community contributions. All match pool dollars will support long-term sustainability.

For community members interested in giving, it’s as simple as visiting GiveLocalMidland.org on May 3 and donating via credit card. All participating organizations are listed on the site, and the minimum contribution amount is $5, reaffirming the idea that anyone can be a philanthropist. If you’d like to give via cash or check, please drop your gift off to the Community Foundation at 76 Ashman Circle by 3 PM on May 3.
