From the fundholder:
Ashley was born on March 4, 1985. Just 8 weeks after her birth, she became jaundiced and was diagnosed with biliary atresia. A few weeks before her first birthday, she underwent two liver transplants…the first transplant was unsuccessful requiring an emergency second transplant. During the time between the two transplants, Ashley suffered brain damage.
Ashley attended special education classes through the Midland County Educational Service Agency in Midland from the age of 3 until the time she passed away in 2006 at the age of 21. The special education services she received were very helpful to Ashley and our family. When Ashley died, we knew we wanted to start a scholarship at the MACF in her name to help students who are interested in pursuing degrees in special education.
Although she never spoke a word, she taught us all so much.
