Dorman Family Midland Believes Scholarship Fund #01053

The mission of The Dorman Family Midland Believes Scholarship is to provide one or more scholarships in conjunction with the Midland Believes scholarship program, which provides annual scholarship awards to Midland County first generation college-going and economically disadvantaged students with preference given to candidates that have both. This scholarship is renewable for a second year to students meeting scholarship requirements. Recipients must be enrolled or plan on attending a Michigan educational organization. The purpose of the Fund is to finance The Dorman Family Midland Believes Endowed Scholarship.

From the fundholder:

Dr. Linneaus (Lin) and Phae Dorman built their lives upon education. Phae held a Masters of Library Science and spent her early years as a reference librarian at Grace Dow and Northwood University libraries. Following her retirement from Dow in 1994, Phae was active in many community affairs – showcasing her passion for education and development. Meanwhile, Dr. Dorman received a Bachelor of Science from Bradley University and a Ph.D. from the University of Indiana. Lin went on to work for Dow as a research chemist – inventing and patenting over 29 different innovations in his 34 years with the company. In addition, Linn was active in the community and in the universities he attended. He served as a trustee at the Midland and helped to start the Cultural Awareness Coalition.

The Dorman Family Midland Believes Scholarship is just one more way that Dr. Linneaus and Phae Dorman support the education of future generations.

Phae passed in 2019 and Dr. Dorman currently resides in Midland.
