From the fundholder:

The James F. and Mary R. Hopfensperger Endowed Art Scholarship Fund was established by their children shortly after the passing of Mary Rose Hopfensperger (1932-2005) to honor the 50+ years of education and services she and her husband, James Francis Hopfensperger (1928-), provided to youth in Midland. The Hopfenspergers relocated to Midland, MI from Milwaukee, WI in 1951 and helped develop a generation of young artists and designers through the arts education programs in the Midland Public Schools where James was both an arts teacher and arts administrator. In 1966, they also established a highly successful art studio producing public sculpture, stained glass, and other liturgical arts including architectural design. Among the many examples of their work in the Midland area are The Family sculpture adjacent to the Midland Tridge; the stained glass windows and exterior sculptures for the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church; and the Bob G. Caldwell Memorial Boat Launch sculpture.
