Thurman O. Sr. and Mary E. Armstrong Educational Endowment Fund #00435

Provide an annual scholarship award to a Midland County resident.

From the fundholder:

Thurman 0. Armstrong Sr. passed away of lung cancer in 1986. Mary Elizabeth, his wife, carried the promises of their married life forward. Prior to her passing, she set up a Charitable Trust naming Mott Children’s Hospital and the Midland Area Community Foundation as the recipients of this trust. When Mary passed away in 2003 it was with great honor and respect to Mary and Thurman that their family advocates for and applauds their wishes.

The family and friends of this loving couple will enjoy seeing Mary and Thurman’s legacy live on in the lives and works of future generations that strive to make a positive difference in our world.

Both Mary and Thurman were very compassionate people. They had lived with hardships and conquered where others might not have done so. Their faith and endurance were often tested with struggles of health, birth defects in their children, and low wages. But they persevered and remained optimistic about life and the future. Their pride in their community, value of the importance of education, and their ever-generous spirit was what brought The Thurman 0. Sr. and Mary E. Armstrong Educational Endowment Fund at the Midland Area Community Foundation to fruition.
