Community Invited to Help Name New Pedestrian Bridge in Downtown Midland

The Midland Area Community Foundation, in partnership with the City of Midland Parks and Recreation Department, is inviting the public to submit potential names for the nearly completed new pedestrian bridge as part of the Poseyville Preserve Project. Submissions will be accepted through Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

The pedestrian bridge will connect the soon-to-be-restored Poseyville Preserve to the eastern side of Downtown Midland, creating a continuous loop linking the parks surrounding the Tridge to the recreational space near Dow Diamond and Founders Park. This project is a signature element of the larger Poseyville Preserve transformation. It is a collaborative effort between the City of Midland and the Michigan Baseball Foundation to reclaim a once vacant, blighted industrial site and restore it as an accessible, vibrant community green space. Another core feature of the Poseyville Preserve Project is the Alan W. Ott Family Pavilion, which is also planned for completion in early fall.

“The pedestrian bridge, as part of the Poseyville Preserve Project, will create a gateway into Midland that celebrates our natural resources and welcomes residents and visitors into a vital area of our community,” said Sharon Mortensen, President & CEO of the Midland Area Community Foundation. “The pedestrian bridge represents a lasting investment in recreation, access, and placemaking. We are thrilled to work alongside the community to name this new landmark.”

The Midland Area Community Foundation is a significant funder of the pedestrian bridge, marking the Foundation’s largest single-project contribution in its history at more than $1 million. The Foundation believes this project is an excellent example of long-term transformation in Midland County.

Once the submission period closes on August 26, the review committee will consider all proposed names and provide recommendations to the City of Midland Parks and Recreation Commission. The Commission plans to select a name during its September 3, 2025, meeting before forwarding it to the Midland City Council for final approval.

To submit a name for consideration, community members can visit midlandfoundation.org/poseyville.
