Riverdays by Midland Area Community Foundation is preparing for the July 30th-August 1st online festival

July 10th, 2020

Midland Area Community Foundation (MACF) is keeping the spirit of Riverdays alive with Riverdays At Home, presented by Fisher Companies. The digital festival is designed to retain a sense of community while keeping community members safe through physical distancing.

Historically, Riverdays has provided Midland with a free event for everyone. Riverdays has been a MACF event for 35 years. The Riverdays committee is made up of volunteers representing several organizations in Midland.

“Although COVID-19 is not permitting us to provide the community with the full Riverdays experience, we’re working hard to develop some innovative and fun events that embody the heart of the festival,” said Sara JacobsCarter, Riverdays Coordinator. “In addition to online musical performances, digital video events supplied by local organizations, and Family Fun Packs, Riverdays is focusing on providing 3 core events to build community including a Drive-In Movie Night, Riverdays Backyard Prom Alongs, and the Riverdays Talent Showcase.”

Kicking off the Riverdays weekend on Thursday, July 30th is a Drive-In Movie. The Midland County Fairgrounds have the ability to host up to 200 cars for a big screen movie. Spots are first come, first serve. We recommend everyone visit RiverdaysMidland.com to secure your spot. The parking lot will open at 8:30pm with a movie start time of 9:30pm. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring their own food and beverages as concessions will not be available on site.

Relive your prom on Friday, July 31st! Riverdays Backyard Prom Alongs encourage you to get together with your significant other, close friends, or other small group to celebrate prom in your own backyard. Be sure to post pictures on the Riverdays Facebook Page and tag #RiverdaysMACF for a chance to be featured by Riverdays Social Media Staff. Staff will be recognizing best dressed, best theme, and other undetermined fun categories. MACF will be live streaming a DJ from 8pm to 10pm and posting a Spotify playlist, if you’d rather control the jams yourself.

Anchoring the Riverdays weekend is the Riverdays Talent Showcase. This online talent show will feature your submissions, culminating in a montage of Midland’s most talented individuals. We’re putting out a talent call for you to submit an up to 5-minute video of your skills by visiting RiverdaysMidland.com and clicking the Dropbox link. Submissions will be included in the final Talent Showcase on a first come, first serve basis. Submissions will be accepted through July 24th. The event will be streamed on the Riverdays Facebook Page on Saturday, August 1st at 6pm. A voting component will follow where Midland residents can select who they believe really brought the house down. The winner will receive eternal bragging rights and a super-secret prize.

“We’re very excited about the 3 large events,” stated Sara JacobsCarter. “We’d also like to provide something fun for families, and youngsters, as well. We will be distributing free Family Fun Packs on a first come, first serve basis at the Midland Area Community Foundation starting July 27th during regular business hours. The packs will include a frisbee, sidewalk chalk, Paper Mache Hot Air Balloon instructions and materials, directions for homemade “henna” tattoos, MACF brochures, and more! In addition, acts from the Riverdays KidsZone will be streaming on the Riverdays Facebook Page.”
