Sheriff John S. Reder Endowed Scholarship Fund #00436

Provide an annual scholarship award to a graduating high school senior of a Midland County high school with preference to a student from Bullock Creek, Coleman or Meridian high school. The successful applicant will be planning a career in law enforcement, corrections, probation, emergency medical technician or physician’s assistant or related fields. Academic achievement and financial need are both considerations.

From the fundholder:

I decided to set up the Sheriff John S. Reder Scholarship Fund because of what I witnessed when I was Sheriff of Midland County and was invited to attend many functions where awards were given to students as a reward for their good grades. I noticed that many of the students who were really in need did not have a good chance at securing one of these awards or scholarships despite also being good, hardworking students who maybe had grades that came just under the cutoffs or who could not get involved in after school events due to conditions at home or who had to maintain employment to help out at home as well as at school. This scholarship is meant to provide an opportunity for these students to be able to compete for a hand up and as a chance to repay many of the kindnesses that were shown to me and the members of the Sheriff’s Office in my 38 years of service to Midland County.
